South East Vets Win the Veterans Winton Cup for the 4th Consecutive Year

Winning Team, Vets Winton 2019

The 2019 Veterans Winton cup was held at RAF Cosford with 10 regions competing in all 3 weapons.

The South East team was as follows:

Mens foil:  Nick Mort, Nick Fihosy, Paul Baillache, Paul Veazey

Womens foil:  Jane Clayton, Kate O’Connell, Gillian Worman

Mens epee:  Simon Pink, Tim Buzwell, Will Miller, James Fleming-Fido

Womens epee:  Nicola Hull, Marg Onyje, Mariette Mason

Mens sabre:  Emmanuel Therond, Mo Mansoori, Barry Coulter

Womens sabre:  Jacqui Esjame-Heath, Grace Coulter, Caroline Martin, Joanne Yeates

The team completed a clean sweep at this years event, convincingly beating all 9 regions and winning the coveted Winton cup for the 4th consecutive year.

This year also saw the individual weapon teams being awarded with trophies and the South East came top in Mens foil, Womens foil and Womens epee, and second in Mens epee, Mens sabre and Womens sabre.

SE Region Senior Foil Championships and GB Cup Qualifier 2019

This year’s competition was held at BACA on 9th February 2019. The women joined the men for the poule round and then fenced off for the medals. The final results are below and showing those qualifying to enter The GB Cup (link may change dependent on BF) in Nottingham on 22nd June 2019

Diane Austin 1933-2018

Diane Austin, veteran fencer and dedicated SE Region administrator, died last weekend.  For those who knew her, funeral details are available on request. 

Diane was a member of Surrey’s successful Excalibur team.  A historic photo is included in a newsletter linked here (p17).

For many years, Diane was SE Region secretary.  Agendas were always prepared and minutes diligently published.

Here’s a link to a picture of Diane refereeing youth fencers in the past. 

In 2008, Diane was awarded a medal in recognition of her service to British Fencing.

Diane was active in veterans fencing.   On one of many successful trips she took silver in the over 70’s category at the Toronto Commonwealth Games.

RIP Diane.
